A free legal consultation is a first conversation in which the problem is not solved in full but becomes clear. People usually seek one when they need to understand quickly whether the situation is routine or calls for a serious review — and whose territory it falls into: legal, tax or accounting.
At Leader Audit we see this every day: a business owner comes asking "is this legal?", when in fact the issue is the tax consequences of a deal or how a transaction is reflected in the books. Below we explain which questions can be closed in one conversation and which require proper work.
Why the first free conversation matters
The point of an initial consultation is to remove uncertainty. The client describes the situation, the specialist names the applicable area of regulation, outlines the risks and says which documents will be needed. That is enough to decide whether to act on your own, bring in a specialist or wait.
This format saves money for both sides. The client does not pay for analysing a problem that may turn out to be trivial, and the consultant does not take on work without understanding its scope.
There is a practical effect as well: during the conversation it becomes clear how urgent the matter is. Some requests can safely wait, while others require action this week — and there is no one else to tell you that sooner.
Which questions one consultation can settle
These are usually questions "at a fork in the road": how to formalise the relationship with a counterparty properly, what a demand you have received means, what a discrepancy in documents may lead to, whether to dispute or simply correct.
Free legal consultations work well where you need direction rather than a ready-made solution. As soon as specific amounts, contracts and correspondence with inspectors come up, the conversation moves into a full engagement with documents.
Questions "at the entry point" deserve a separate mention: how to formalise the relationship with a new partner, what to include in the contract, which documents to keep. A free legal consultation is particularly useful here — preventing an error is cheaper than fixing it.
- which area of law or tax regulation applies to the situation
- which documents to gather first
- whether the matter is urgent and what the company risks
- whether an external specialist is needed or the in-house accounting team can handle it
- where to start if a request has arrived from a regulatory authority
Free legal consultation online: why it is convenient
The online format removes geography. A company from any region of Uzbekistan can describe its situation, send a scan of a document and get direction without travelling to the capital. For an initial conversation, that is sufficient.
Free online legal consultations are especially appropriate when the question is simple in substance but needs a quick answer: a deadline is expiring, a counterparty is waiting, a decision has to be made today.
The format has one limitation: without the source documents the specialist relies on what the client says. So a conclusion obtained online is a direction of travel, not a final position.
We ask clients to send documents in advance where possible, even as photos. Even a quick look at the contract changes the conversation: instead of general reasoning you get a specific answer.
Where free ends and paid work begins
The line is drawn by the amount of work with documents. As long as we are discussing the situation verbally, it is a consultation. Once contracts have to be read, the books examined, objections drafted or an inspection supported, a project begins with its own timeline and cost.
We say so upfront so that the client never feels a bait-and-switch. Often after the first conversation it turns out that no paid work is needed at all: it is enough to fix the document flow.
We also do not give tailored turnkey solutions in the first conversation. Legal and tax practice changes, and a position that was correct last year may look different today — this requires checking against the current version of the legislation.
Why a legal question is almost always a tax question
Most business enquiries have a second layer. The wording of a contract determines how the transaction is recorded in the books, and the accounting treatment determines the tax consequences. Analysing one without the other gives you half an answer.
That is why at an audit firm this conversation is held on two levels at once: the legal structure and its accounting treatment. This significantly reduces the number of situations where "legally everything is clean" but claims arise during an inspection.
A typical example is working with self-employed individuals and contractors. Legally these are civil-law relationships, but how the transaction will be classified during an inspection depends on the wording of the contract and the content of the acceptance certificates. One conversation here can save the company months of disputes.
How to prepare for the conversation
Good preparation halves the length of the consultation. A short timeline is enough: what happened, which documents have been signed, which deadlines have already passed, what you want to achieve.
If there are letters, demands or disputed contract clauses, flag them in advance. Then a free legal consultation will give you not a general answer but a specific course of action.
- a brief timeline of events
- a list of signed documents
- demands or letters received
- the outcome you want
Who we usually help
Most often we are approached by managers of small and medium-sized businesses, company accountants and owners who have received an unexpected request from a regulatory authority. Less often by specialists who need a second opinion on a disputed transaction.
Leader Audit's clients are located across Uzbekistan. Over 13 years in practice and more than 220 audits we have accumulated a large body of typical situations, so in many cases the answer is found straight away.
If a question falls outside our competence, we say so directly. That is also a result of the consultation: knowing which specialist to go to is better than getting a confident but inaccurate answer.
Describe your situation — we will review it together
The first conversation is free: we will help you understand whether your question is legal or tax-related, and what to do next.

What does a free legal consultation include?
A verbal review of the situation, identification of the applicable area of regulation, a risk assessment and a list of the documents that will be needed next. Working with the documents themselves and preparing a position is a separate project.
Can I get a consultation online?
Yes, the initial conversation takes place remotely, and for companies outside the capital this is the usual format. Bear in mind that without documents the conclusion is indicative.
Will you give me a ready-made solution for my situation?
Not in the initial consultation. We explain how the issue works and what options exist, while a solution for specific circumstances requires reviewing documents and the current version of the legislation.
How does an audit firm differ from a law firm on such matters?
We look at the situation from the legal and the accounting-and-tax side at the same time. This matters where the wording of a contract directly affects the tax consequences.
How long does the first conversation last?
As long as it takes to understand the substance of the question and outline the next steps. This is usually enough to decide whether a full engagement is needed.
