    Checked against the official source:

An express audit is a short review whose purpose is not to express an opinion on the financial statements but to understand quickly what state the books are in and where the main risks are concentrated.

It is a sensible first step when the scale of the problem is unclear: afterwards it becomes clear whether a full audit, reconstruction of the accounts or a few targeted corrections are needed.

    Status and scope

An express audit is a voluntary engagement: it is commissioned by the company, its owner or a participant holding at least 5% (Article 36 of ZRU-677), and the client determines the focus and scope (Article 38). Typically this covers settlements with the budget, VAT and e-invoices (ESF), payroll taxes, major contracts and period-end balances.

    What we look at first

    • Whether account balances agree with the financial statements
    • Completeness of primary documents for a sample of major transactions
    • Recognition of revenue and expenses by period
    • Tax calculations: obvious discrepancies between the books and the returns
    • The state of settlements with counterparties and whether reconciliations exist

What an express audit does not give

No audit report is issued after such a review: the scope of procedures is deliberately limited, so there is no basis for expressing an opinion on the reliability of the financial statements. It is diagnostics, not an audit within the meaning of Article 39 of ZRU-677.

    What you receive

A short report: a list of findings with an assessment of materiality, an approximate estimate of the tax consequences and a recommendation on what to do next and in what order.

    Frequently asked questions

How long does an express audit take?

Usually a few working days. The timing depends on the volume of transactions and how quickly documents and access to the accounting database are provided.

Can its cost be credited towards a full audit?

As a rule, yes: part of the planning work and familiarization with the accounting has already been done, and this is taken into account when pricing the subsequent audit.

Who can commission an express audit?

The company, its owner or a participant holding at least 5% (Article 36 of ZRU-677).
