Audit Firms in Uzbekistan: International Networks and Local Firms

• The Register of Audit Organisations is kept electronically and open to the public: name, TIN, head and auditors with certificate numbers, date of entry and grounds for removal (Article 41).
• The authorised body's website publishes the Register and information on audit firms' membership of international networks and associations (Article 13).
• A ranking of audit organisations is carried out by national public associations of auditors, which publish the results every year by May 1 (Article 15).

How to vet an auditor

• whether the firm is in the Register and has not been removed (Articles 41, 43);
• for a mandatory audit — at least two auditors with at least three years of continuous experience or an international certificate, and no violations found by external quality control (Article 35);
• whether there are independence restrictions — for example, if the firm kept your books during the period under audit (Article 34).

International network or local firm

The choice depends on who will read the audit opinion. If the requirement for the auditor comes from a bank, an international financial institution or a foreign investor, check their conditions in advance. For a mandatory audit under Article 35, the law imposes the same requirements on any firm in the Register.
